This page describes precisely which data is processed on Sagesse du Jour, for what purpose, and how you can exercise your rights as a visitor.

What the site does not collect

Sagesse du Jour does not create any visitor account, does not request any registration, and contains no data-collection form. You can read the thought of the day without providing any personal information.

The site does not set any preference cookie, does not store any browsing history specific to each visitor, and does not build any individual profile. The single thought displayed depends on the date, not on who you are or what you have previously viewed.

Audience measurement: Umami

The site uses Umami to measure its traffic. This tool is self-hosted on the same server as the site, as a first party: the data does not pass through any third-party service.

Umami sets no cookie, uses no persistent identifier, and does not track visitors across sites. Visitors' IP addresses are not stored. Because there is no tracker and no personal data collected, this audience measurement does not require prior consent and works as soon as you arrive on the site.

In practice, Umami lets us know how many pages have been viewed and from which approximate geographic areas, without ever being able to link these figures to an identifiable person. This technical limitation, not merely an internal policy, is what exempts this tool from consent under the regulations applicable to trackers.

The site displays ads via Google AdSense. Unlike Umami audience measurement, these ads rely on cookies and may use advertising identifiers provided by Google. That is why they are only loaded after your explicit consent.

Until you have given your agreement, no Google script is loaded on the page: no cookie is set, and no ad is displayed in that space.

A banner asks for your consent before Google AdSense ads are loaded. Refusing is as simple as accepting: both options are presented equally. Your choice remains changeable at any time via a link located in the footer, which lets you revisit your decision, in either direction.

Recipients of the data

When you accept the ads, the corresponding data (cookies, advertising identifiers) is transmitted to Google, as part of its AdSense service. Outside of this case, and outside of the server's technical logs described below, no data is transmitted to a third party.

Umami, being self-hosted on our own server, transmits no data to a third party: the statistics remain on the infrastructure that we operate directly.

Retention period

The aggregated statistics produced by Umami are kept on our server for as long as the site is active, without individual visitors being identifiable. The cookies set by Google AdSense, once you have accepted them, are subject to Google's own retention period, over which we have no control.

Server technical logs

Like any web server, the one hosting Sagesse du Jour records technical connection logs (requests received, response codes, timestamps) needed for the service's operation and security. These logs are used for technical diagnostics and are not used for commercial or advertising tracking purposes.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have a right of access, rectification, erasure, objection, and portability regarding data concerning you. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority competent in data protection matters.

In practice, these rights apply mainly to the cookies set by Google AdSense after your consent, since the site itself retains no identifiable personal data outside of that case. For Google cookies, you can withdraw your consent at any time via the link provided in the footer, or manage your advertising preferences directly with Google.
